Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

Scalable, cost efficient and reliable infrastructure

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) at the basis provides access to server, storage and network resources. But in addition it also offers other services such as but not limited to image management, identity management, telemetry and last but not least orchestration. IaaS can be utilized to create cost effective and scalable IT solutions.

Infrastructure comes from a number of servers and networks usually distributed across numerous data centers maintained by the service provider. Clients are given access to the infrastructure components to build their own IT platform. No need to manage the underlying hardware as this is taken care of by the provider. Fluctuating business operations can be met by simply tapping into the cloud resource as and when needed, rather than having to purchase, install and integrate hardware physically. Expanding businesses can scale their infrastructure in accordance with their growth whilst private clouds can protect the storage and transfer of the sensitive data that some businesses are required to handle.

Benefits of IaaS

  1. Resources are available as and when the end user needs them – no delays in expanding or shrinking capacity.
  2. No actual provisioning of hardware required. Everything is set up and maintained by the service provider saving time and cost.
  3. Pay as you go. Cloud services can be accessed on demand.
  4. Make use of your organization’s virtual infrastructure anytime, anywhere. All that is required is an internet connection.
  5. No single point of failure. If one server or network switch fails, the cloud infrastructure is unaffected.
